In order to verify reacting speed, ability to deal with contingency and coordinate with other departments, understanding of all departments on emergency plans and actual capability to deal with sudden events to enhance safety consciousness and emergency rescue level, KFCC carried out a drill of emergency plan for a gas leak and explosion at 5# car bottom furnace of Bake Shop at 9£º00, 18th June, 2010.
When car bottom furnaces were working, the gas alarm online rang at 9£º00 18th June, 2010, and at once the operator on duty reported to the Control Center that the gas pipe had leaked and gas feed should be stopped immediately. He then asked the Center to send mechanics for repair. The attemperation operator soon got to the site and checked the leak. He was then stifled to unconsciousness when checking the leak at 5# furnace. In a few minutes, the mechanics arrived at the site and found that the cause was the aging of a valve. However, explosion happened when they were removing the valve and two mechanics were injured by burn. The situation was deteriorating and the company started first grade emergency plan.
The drill proved that the emergency plan was scientific and of great adaptability when it came to the real situation. In the process, the participative departments responded quickly and cooperated soundly with each other. Faced with critical circumstances, the rescue team calmly treated various unexpected situations. The drill heightened the general consciousness of safety of all staff and promoted the rescue skill of participative departments, which were critical to safe production of the company. However, there were also some problems in the drill, such as poor communication and unclear transitions from third grade site treatment to second grade rescue and from second grade rescue to first grade one.
After the drill, a meeting was held to solve the problems in the practice, improve emergency plans and make emergency plans more specific and practical.
