Domestic carbon fiber and composite materials are to be installed in Falcon advanced trainers
After more than one year’s research work, domestic carbon fiber and composite materials are realizing their first trial in Falcon. They are to be installed in Falcon 06 advanced trainers of Avic Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Croup Corporation, which will substantially reduce the cost of Hongdu.
Recently, Hongdu has adopted vigorous measures to promote the localization of carbon fiber and composite materials. Hongdu began the research of the application base of domestic carbon fiber in L15 advanced trainers in May 2008. After more than one year’s endeavor, they completed improvement of certain resin, preparation of prepreg, moulding process and performance test of laminate board, trial manufacture of composite materials for missile wing and composite materials for vertical trim of L15 advanced trainer. On this basis, they used domestic carbon fiber for important components, nose spinners and rudders for examples, which are also to be installed in Falcon 06.
Falcon advanced trainers which were independently developed by Hongdu consisted of AIT (Advanced Instructor) and LIFT (Lead In Fighter). Hongdu began the research of LIET (06) in 2009. LIFT adopted boost engine, system and equipment for fighting tactic training, and mainly undertook training courses, for example tactical flight.
