Kaifeng is a century’s old and civilized city and was once the capital of China for nearly 400 years in total in seven ancient dynasties, including Wei in Warring States Period, Later Liang, Later Jin, Later Han and Later Zhou in Five Dynasties, Northern Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty, which gives Kaifeng rich cultural heritage. Besides, Kaifeng is famous for chrysanthemum and is called “the City of Chrysanthemum”. "Yellow flower is all over the country; but the best is Chrysanthemum of Kaifeng”. It is shown in historical literature that Kaifeng has a history of more than 1600 years to cultivate chrysanthemum, and the culture of chrysanthemum reached its top prosperity in Song Dynasty where people cultivated, enjoyed, chanted and even ate chrysanthemum. Moreover, Kaifeng people are very hospitable and the city is well known for its various snacks and night markets. It is mentioned in The Old Gold Days in Dongjing that the night markets ended at 1 am and restarted at 5 am with colorful variety of nightlives all through. Kaifeng Carbon Co., Ltd, Pingdingshan Coal Group (KFCC) was approved by National Development & Reform Commission in 1986 and founded in 2006. Through the past twenty years, our annual steel output has climbed up to 567.84 million tons by 2009 from 50 million tons and electric steel up to 50 million tons from 10 million tons. The number of electric furnaces of 75 MT and above has reached up to 50 or more from less 10 furnaces. It is the rapid development of domestic steel industry, especially electric steel making, that has provided KFCC with powerful momentum to build and develop the project and encouraged KFCC staff to be more determined and confident in booming China’s carbon industry, supporting development of China’s steel industry and filling up the gap of UHP graphite electrode in big diameters to realize the domestic producing of UHP graphite electrodes as soon as possible. Construction of Kaifeng Carbon Project and founding of KFCC were based on rapid development of domestic steel industry and especially electric steelmaking industry, which means that KFCC exists on iron & steel, develops with iron & steel and flourishes with electric steelmaking no matter at present or in the future. Therefore, Kaifeng will always be sincerely looking forward to more support and help from all of you in the future.
With the good care and support from all friends, KFCC has been in operation and its products are commercially used in more than 20 domestic steel mills with quality, specification and on-site performance reaching the same level of imported electrodes. Right now, we endeavor to increase product output, improve product quality, and gradually realize systematic and commercial production of UHP electrode with diameter ranging from to 400mm to 800mm and various lengths. At Seventh KFCC Annual Meeting of shareholders, Third board meeting and First KFCC¡¡Congress of CPC , the Three-Step development strategy was stipulated, according to which firstly, realize the annual production of 22,000 MT of UHP electrodes in diameter of 500mm and above in next two years; secondly, localize raw material, commercially manufacture high-grade carbon products and try to be listed in domestic stock market to finance the construction of Project Phase II in the following 3 – 5 years and thirdly, try to make a domestic first-class and world renowned carbon company. We believe that with the strong support of Zhong Ping Energy Chemical Group and the care and assistance of steel enterprises, we can definitely achieve our goal.
